School of Philosophy and Arts at HARI

School of Philosophy & Arts

HARI is one of the very few institutions in India where Philosophy is not a peripheral subject — it is a cornerstone.

Anchored by the Chair for Tirthankar Bhagwan Rishabhdev, the School approaches India’s ancient wisdom traditions with the same intellectual rigour and academic seriousness as any modern discipline.

MA Philosophy

2 Years  |  Fully Residential

An interdisciplinary postgraduate programme that draws from Indian philosophical traditions, Western analytical philosophy, consciousness studies, ethics, and the science of the inner world. Students engage with living philosophical questions — not merely historical ones — and bring their insights into dialogue with research across the HARI campus.

Core Areas of Study

Indian Philosophical Traditions

Vedanta, Jain philosophy, Samkhya, and the wisdom of the Tirthankars.

Philosophy of Consciousness

The inner sciences as a rigorous academic field.

Ethics in Technology & Leadership

In direct dialogue with the Schools of Engineering and Management.

Chair for Tirthankar Bhagwan Rishabhdev

Dedicated seminars, research, and visiting scholars in the Jain tradition.

Comparative Philosophy

Eastern and Western traditions in conversation.

Philosophy of Ecology

The ethics of our relationship with the natural world, on a campus that embodies it.

Philosophy students at HARI are not confined to a seminar room. They co-teach ethics modules with Engineering students, contribute to consciousness research at the Centre for Inner Sciences, and engage with the ecological philosophy embedded in Kanha Shanti Vanam’s transformation story. This is philosophy as it was always meant to be practised — alive, applied, and in conversation with the world.
